Mercury Engines Overview

Mercury is a car brand manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1938. The first model was introduced in 1939 by Edsel Ford to fill the gap between Ford’s mainstream cars and the luxury of Lincoln. The brand offers more power, styling, and features than base Fords, but below Lincoln's price/feature levels. Over its lifetime, Mercury produced sedans, coupes, convertibles, wagons, and even performance-oriented models. These cars employed many notable Mercury engines, including the first Mercury model, Mercury 8, which came with a V8 engine in its 1939 debut. Over the 1960s and beyond, Mercury offered a range of V8 engines, smaller-block V8s, and large-displacement big-blocks.

Mercury Milan

The Milan was sold with a V6 engine option. For example, the 2008 Milan V6 (and AWD V6) is listed with a displacement of 2967 cc.

Mercury Sable

The 2008 and 2009 Mercury Sable used a 3.5 L Cyclone V6 engine with 263 hp. Earlier Sable generations offered either a 2.5-litre I4 or an “all-new” 3.0-litre V6.

Mercury Cougar

Over its history, Cougar has had many engine variations. In earlier generations, for example the the pony car, engine options ranged from a 4.7 L Windsor V8 up to a 7.0 L FE V8, depending on year/model. For later generations, base engines included a 3.8 L V6 with an automatic transmission

Mercury Mariner

For mid-2000s Mariner, engine options included: a 2.5 L inline-4 (I4) and a 3.0 L V6. The 2.5 L I4 delivered ~171 hp, and the 3.0 L V6 (~240 hp) when equipped with the 6-speed automatic.

Mercury Marauder

The Marauder was conceived as a performance-oriented sedan: it used a 4.6 L V8 producing roughly 300 hp. The 2003–2004 production run was short; total production ~11,052 units.

Mercury Mountaineer

The third generation was manufactured from 2006 to 2010, with two main engines were offered: a 4.0 L V6 and a 4.6 L V8.

Mercury Grand Marquis

Grand Marquis uses a 4.6L V8 engine producing roughly 224 hp.
