Is the 2GR-FE an interference engine?

Yes. If the timing chain fails while running, valve-to-piston contact will occur. The chain itself is highly durable, but low oil levels accelerate tensioner wear. Always verify oil maintenance history on the donor vehicle before installation.

Does this engine fit other Toyota models?

The 2GR-FE was also used in the Avalon, Highlander V6, RAV4 V6, Lexus ES350, and RX350. However mounting points, sensor positions, and harness routing differ between models. Never assume cross-model fitment — VIN verify every time.

Camry runs but knocks under load do need a full replacement or just rod bearings?

A knock only under load typically points to rod bearing wear rather than a failed block. Before committing to a full engine, have a shop check oil pressure at idle versus at 2,500 RPM. If pressure drops sharply under load, bearings are the likely cause and a full swap is the cleaner long-term fix.

What VIN K Tells You

The fifth digit of your VIN confirms your engine family. VIN K on a 2007 Camry identifies the 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 paired with an automatic transmission in US-domestic specification. This is different from VIN U which indicates the 2.4L four-cylinder. If your fifth digit is K this is your engine. If it is anything else, call us before ordering. Getting this wrong creates sensor and harness mismatches that are entirely avoidable.

What This Unit Has Been Through

SKU MAE551253866 carries 54,940 verified miles and a Part Grade of A. Before this listing went live, it passed a compression test, oil pressure check, and full visual examination at our facility. Bolt-on accessories alternator, AC compressor, starter, and power steering pump are not included and should be transferred from your original engine. This is standard practice for used engine replacements.

Why This Makes Financial Sense

Toyota dealership remanufactured 2GR-FE units typically run $3,200 to $4,800 before labour. Independent rebuilds average $1,800 to $3,000 depending on what is replaced and most rebuilds carry a 90-day parts warranty at best. This unit at $1,843 includes a 4-year or 40,000-mile warranty from Moon Auto Parts, free shipping to your commercial address, and no core charge. When you factor in toyota camry engine replacement cost across all three options, a Grade A low-mileage tested unit with four-year coverage is the strongest value by a significant margin.
